Eli, this one really landed. What conceivable definition of Southwest Asian identity excludes a Jewish community that lived continuously in Southwest Asia for roughly 2,500 years? And the irony of ending on sumud while overlooking the Jews of Baghdad—and their own word for staying and persisting—is hard to miss. Sometimes an omission reveals the boundaries of a worldview more clearly than an argument does.
